Dear Parents,
School has changed a lot since Mrs. Hinkle went to school back in the twentieth century. She walked to school. Everyone went home for lunch, which was an hour and a half long, but there was no recess or playground equipment. In class, the students sat in rows and spoke only when called on. There was no group work. However, there was a large amount of reading, copying, and writing. Has anyone today heard of “dictation”? The teacher read off an excerpt from literature and the students wrote. Everyone used cursive and wrote with fountain pens.
However, some things are the same: math and reading and history, for example. And students still talk too much in class!
Parents, how about you? I invite you to post your ideas about this topic.
How is school today different from when you went to school?
Is there anything the same?
Do you think school is better now or in the past?
What do you think school will be like in the future?
